REFERRALS & WORKING WITH PROFESSIONALS

Working in Partnership to Support Children and Young People

We work collaboratively with schools, local authorities, and professional services to provide equine-assisted therapy and learning for children and young people who benefit from structured, trauma-informed therapeutic support.

Our provision is counsellor-led, safeguarding-focused, and designed to complement existing educational and therapeutic support.

Who Can Refer

We welcome referrals from:

  • Schools and SENCOs

  • Local authorities

  • Early Help and family support services

  • Other professional services

  • Parents and carers in partnership with schools or professionals, where appropriate

Referrals are considered on an individual basis to ensure the provision is suitable and safe for the child or young person.

Children and Young People We Support

Referrals are typically made for children who may be experiencing:

  • SEND or SEMH needs

  • Emotional regulation difficulties

  • Anxiety or emotional distress

  • Trauma or adverse life experiences

  • Difficulties engaging in school or traditional settings

  • Challenges with confidence, communication, or relationships

Sessions are adapted to meet each child’s emotional, developmental, and sensory needs.

Referral Process

Our referral process is designed to be clear, collaborative, and proportionate.

Step 1: Initial Enquiry

Professionals are invited to make contact to discuss:

  • The child’s needs

  • The reason for referral

  • Desired outcomes

  • Any relevant background information

This helps determine whether equine-assisted therapy or learning is appropriate.

Step 2: Information Gathering

Where appropriate, we may request:

  • Child’s age and year group

  • Relevant needs or diagnoses (if applicable)

  • Risk considerations

  • Funding route

  • Consent arrangements

Step 3: Planning and Agreement

If the referral is accepted:

  • Session focus and approach are agreed

  • Duration and frequency are discussed

  • Roles and responsibilities are clarified

Step 4: Review and Communication

Progress is reviewed as appropriate, in line with ethical and confidentiality boundaries, and feedback may be shared with referrers where consent is in place.

Funding Routes

Provision may be accessed through:

  • School funding

  • Local authority funding

  • Early help or targeted support funding

  • Grant-funded or subsidised places (subject to availability)

  • Private funding (where appropriate)

We are happy to discuss funding options as part of the referral conversation.

Safeguarding and Professional Standards

All referrals are supported by robust safeguarding and professional practice.

  • Sessions are delivered by a qualified counsellor

  • Safeguarding policies and procedures are in place

  • Enhanced DBS checks are held

  • Risk assessments are completed

  • Ethical frameworks and clinical supervision underpin the work

Policies and documentation are available on request.

Communication and Confidentiality

We work transparently and respectfully with professionals while maintaining appropriate confidentiality.

  • Information is shared only with consent or where safeguarding requires

  • Professional boundaries are maintained

  • Communication is clear and proportionate

Our work is intended to complement, not replace, statutory or clinical services.

Visiting and Professional Conversations

Where appropriate, we welcome:

  • Professional conversations

  • Planning discussions

  • Opportunities to explore suitability before referral

This supports shared understanding and safe, effective provision.

“Meaningful change happens when children are supported through respectful partnership and shared understanding.”
